SUP Music Program

A few weeks ago, a good neighbor and friend, Brother Dummer, asked Corey if our family could provide some Christmas music for a program at the end of a Sons of Utah Pioneers meeting tonight. Corey said yes, and began to plan what each child could do. He had Daniel start to listen to and learn Pie Jesu. I practiced that a lot with him, and after a few days I searched up and learned the alto part. Daniel and I practiced it together and decided I would sing it with him tonight. Daniel and I have been practicing a lot, often in the garage. Our friend Terry heard us singing and was so excited, asking if Daniel would be singing for everyone at church. No, this is just for a Sons of Utah Pioneers thing. I was a little nervous, but knew it would be ok cause it was just a small group that we'd be performing for. I listened to it a ton today to keep my mind fresh. Sometimes I miss the note that I come in on. I listened to it today while Corey and I went on a bike ride at 1:30. Abi was home so Corey and I were able to sneak out. We almost got to 3rd bridge but I didn't want to go any more, my back was hurting a little (I don't love the silver bike). 9.07 miles in 1 hour 7 min. 58 degrees. I got the coalpit Local legend today and that's all of them! Go me, I'm such a legend. (I should already have that one but for some reason it doesn't recorded the Coalpit segment sometimes, so that one was a few efforts behind.)

Tonight we all went over for a rehearsal at 4 and I was glad to see that our neighbor Elasha wasn't just accompanying Mel and Abi, but her family was doing some numbers too. Yay, so it wasn't just us. Sophi and Natalie just had a youtube video accompanying them. Lily didn't do anything cause she conveniently lost her clarinet. S&N were a little stressed cause they don't practice much anymore (haven't had lessons since the spring, it's not in the budget right now). Abi gets stressed too, though with her I don't know why, cause she's so good but she hates performing. As we walked in she said that she hates all the work and stress leading up to a performance, but then when the actual performance time comes, it's not actually that bad.

We were the majority of the program. Program for the Temple Quarry Chapter of The National Society of The Sons of Utah Pioneers:
  • Au Privave by Charlie Parker - Owen and Corey Wride, trumpet and alto saxophone
  • Pie Jesus by Andrew Lloyd Webber - Daniel and Tiffanie Wride, vocal
  • We Three Kinds of Orient by John H. Hopkins - Sophia and Natalie Wride, violin
  • Then the Morgans (they're pros)
  • Then "The Wride Family Part 2" was
  • Bring a Torch Jeanette Isabela by Marc Antonio Charpentier, arranged by Melodie Wride,
  • Abigail and Melodie (flute) and Elasha Morgan (piano)
  • Cantabile et Presto by Georges Enesco - Abigail (flute)
  • Then a vocal solo by a lady named Sara
I think one of the kids got a video of Daniel and I, and I was glad that it wasn't bad! We sang with this video as our accompaniment. After we were done, Elasha, who is the new music coordinator in our ward, asked if I was going to be singing Pie Jesu with Daniel at church. I didn't know Corey had signed Daniel up for that, but I said sure. So I guess we will be singing at church. I guess we get to keep practicing!

One other note from today - we got a text that our nephew Connor Smart got engaged tonight, to a girl named Stephanie. Neil said they are neighbors and they know and love her family, so they are excited. There is going to be another Stephanie Hibbert in the family, yay!
They are getting married in the summer, so June or July. I'll be sure to offer any advice that they might want while wedding planning is fresh on our brains. But they have plenty of time to figure out all the details that they want for their big day.
