For FHE tonight, we went downtown to see the lights at temple square, yay
We don't make it down here every year, but I want to, so it was good we made it tonight and I'll be a little more determined to keep the tradition going next December. We didn't buy any treats during or afterward, cause I had brought along a backpack full of Christmas treats that Corey and I got last night from a neighbor Kim. She really loves to make Christmas goodies and she called us to come over to get some - toffee, candy popcorn, almond cookies, fruit cake, and I can't remember what else, but we left with a lot. Her son Jeff passed away in October, and Corey helped a lot ministering to him as the Elder's Quorum President in our ward, so he's earned a part of her heart there for what Corey did to serve Jeff.We parked close to the City Creek Shopping center and walked from there, through City Creek, to Temple Square. Ok, everyone line up for a pic while we wait for dad.
We started to walk, cause we would be slower with the little kids.
This is a faster way! Good thinking Abi.
We told them a story of how the day I got home from my mission on Dec 2, 1998, after I was released, Corey picked me up and we went on a date down to temple square to deliver a package to a sister missionary who was serving there and her parents gave me the gift to take to her. We delivered that, went by the Tabernacle where a choir was rehearsing, and when we were there, President Hinckley came in and was giving some remarks to the choir. As he left, the choir director said something to Pres Hinckley, a little back and forth, then Pres Hinckley put his hands up in the air as if to say "fine!" and he walked up to the conductor's stand, picked up a baton, and said "1 - 2 - 3 - GO!" and the choir sang the Hallelujah chorus while Pres Hinckley waved his hands up and down not in rhythm, it was really funny and the highlight of the evening. Corey was a little bummed that he had spent too much money on a carriage ride just to be shown up by the prophet. So that was one story. Another story - when we got engaged in December 1998 and Corey proposed to me on this exact spot (the cement block has been updated) Abi took a pic of us pretending to re-create the moment.
Oh wow, just reading my journal and guess what, we were engaged on this very day! December 15, 1998, on the day that my mission comp Charity/Hermana Coleman was married. Here is an excerpt from my blue journal embossed with "Tiffanie Wride", Tuesday December 15, 1998:
After the sealing, while we waited for Ryan & Charity to come out for pictures, Corey and I walked around and hugged and kissed and talked and teased. He asked - "So, are you ever going to get married?" "Well, I dunno..." "Don't you have someone you'd want to marry?" "Well, there is this one guy I like, but I don't know if he'll ever ask me..." Corey laughed. We kept talking like that. Corey told me to give that "one guy" a week, and if he didn't ask me in a week, to drop him. We went over to dinner at the Joseph Smith Memorial Building. We left the dinner at 6:15. I told Corey that a guy named Martin was going to meet me at 6:00 and propose to me out on the little marriage stand behind the JS building, just east of the temple. I had to hurry! I was already late! We went up to the top floor and looked at the temple. We went over to the other side so I could check to see if Martin was still there, but we couldn't see. I told Corey we'd just have to go out there and check. Now it was like 6:45. We went out -no Martin, I was heartbroken. I was really looking forward to being proposed to. Corey felt back for me, to see me stood up, let down like that. "Well maybe I could propose to you?" "You? Are you sure? You don't have to do this... I'm sure someday I'll find someone who really wants to marry me..." I could tell Corey was getting serious. I had been teasing but got serious. I said a prayer and asked Heavenly Father to bless Corey that if he really wanted to propose now, that he do it. If not now, I could wait. Corey also asked me "well don't you need a ring to propose?" "I don't think so... It's not the ring that's important." Talked like that, then I said a prayer and Corey got on his right knee (by now I was sitting on the stand) and he asked me to marry him, if I would be his bride, He asked in Spanish too. He like asked me lots of different ways. After that we took off to talk to his parents then my parents. Isn't it great? My dreams are coming true!!! COREY AND I ARE ENGAGED!!!!
My kids know that story from oral tradition, but there's the written version from my journal. After wandering around and eating treats, we went into the Conference Center and looked at that huge room.
They are all set up for the Christmas Concert. We went into the museum - loved seeing this pic of our Canyon.
We got a p-day phone call from Wesley while we were out. Wes is coming home in two weeks!
It was a good outing.
Earlier today I went on a ride/hike and I got a few more local legends, yay. It's just a little game I'm playing at the moment. I logged it as a ride so I could get another effort on a few segments that I didn't have the "local legend" for yet, and it was a "ride" cause I rode from home on the silver bike up past the 1st bridge. But... I left the bike near the coal pit area where it became a "hike" - I hiked from there up to the ruins and back. "The Ruins" with a cute little snowman -
I went along techy, and tried to go faster on the descent so it looked like I was biking down. I did a little bit of jogging. A lot of thinking and praying. We are overdraft in our personal account more than $300, Corey said he's overdrawn in his business account as well, so he can't fix our account like he usually does. (Usually because we are overdrawn several times a week). Back at the Coalpit with my bike, yay it wasn't stolen. This is me trying to document my feelings via a sad selfie. My faith and trust was struggling today. Lord, help thou my unbelief.
So the van needs new tires. I took it in to Burt Bros today to get that done. They quoted Corey $1100, I called, they said they price match, I found tires on Amazon for $100, they don't price match online but the will do it from a local place, and he searched and saw that Walmart has tires similar to what we need for $109 so they matched that, which was very nice, plus alignment, and extended warranty. The total for all that and labor was $873.10, which is better than $1100, so thank you Lord. Now I'm not scared to be driving around in the winter snow that's coming.
