Let Summer Begin!

An awesome mom in our neighborhood put on a little "Hooray! School is out!" summer ice cream social today (did I mention I love my neighborhood - AND we live in such a beautiful area - love the mountains and the trees (trees like this are a little rare for Utah ~ remind me of Virginia)) - the kids had fun eating ice cream with lots of candy!

and playing with the guinea pigs...

Let summer fun begin!!!  You ready?  Here's my plan:

They wake up at 7:00 and have to finish their work by noon, which includes:
  • 1 hour music
  • 1 hour reading
  • 20 minutes Spanish
  • 30 minute Khan Academy or flash cards or some other math
  • Clean their Bedroom, Closet, and their Zone (Zones change after a week: Joe - Kitchen, Mel - Bathroom, Ethan - Living Areas, Hyrum and Wes - Laundry)

If they finish by noon, they get to come on the outing.  If they're not done, they don't get to come and have to stay home and finish their chores but they lose their play privileges.  If they are done they have to come, can't stay home for free time unless it's something really important.

Here are the outings we've planned for each day (of course each day has to have an alliteration or it just doesn't work...):

Expand Your Mind Monday - Go to the library, have a read-a-thon, visit a historical place, or go to the museum.

Trek it Tuesday - Go on a hike, to a park, or go camping - or I might do Talent Tuesday and we'll learn a skill, practice a talent (art, wood working, knitting, sewing, etc)

Water Wednesday - waterpark (got the pass of all passes to Seven Peaks), community pool, sprinklers outside, waterfight, or water hunger games

Thanksgiving Thursday - Visit Thanksgiving Point: gardens, museum, farm, have a picnic and bring a book to read

Free Friday - they are free to play with friends or do something fun on their own

Stress Free Saturday - get to sleep in, we chill at home, no friends, family work day in the morning then the kids can do something with Corey if he's able

I also thought this had some cute ideas that I plan to work into my plan as we progress.  Good luck to everyone, would love to hear about your plans!
