Today was the Hibbert Reunion 2021!
The first Hibbert reunion was in
2015 in Heber. In
2019 we went up to
Yellowstone for
a few days and it was a blast. For this year, I thought that my siblings from Texas were just happening to both be in town the same week and that we were just getting together to play at Anzak park, but then everyone kept calling it a reunion, so ok! Grant and Stephanie are in town from Texas, AND Patrice and JT, so yeah! Might as well make it a reunion. We were missing Camilla in Indiana but she is going to make it out one of these years, since we are getting better at doing this. So today was a full day of hanging out with some of the greatest people in the world. Grant and Steph said they had the whole day free, so we went to town and kept them busy! Steph and I went on an early morning bike ride at Corner Canyon (picked her up at 5:45 am)
And that was fun (I hope!) There aren't mountains in Texas so this was new territory and she fell twice, not that badly but still bruised, and there's also the altitude difference, but she did great and I hope she liked it. After that we had plans to meet at 10 for street hockey. My kids (except Owen) were still in bed when Grant showed up. Lily didn't want to come, but told her to get out of bed and come out for a picture atleast, and told she could go back inside after that. Our pre-game pic:
It was nice that she ended up staying for a bit, and then when some neighbor friends of hers were passing by on their scooters, she went and joined them. Sophi played like an animal, Natalie rode her bike and played a little, O&D stayed and played, and Peter was fussy and crying because Lily had taken some goldfish crackers (Peter assumed incorrectly once again that the whole bag was for him) Game time - face off!
I sent a message to the neighborhood group me this morning that we were going to have a game, so there were two boys that joined us from that. Patrice and her kids joined in and then things heated up, cause Trice was a goal scoring machine.
Post-game group photo:
We all got nice and hot and sweaty, which would make a cool down at the pool feel really nice. We ended at noon, took a break for lunch, and then headed over for fun time at the rec center, which was a place of many summer memories for us. I didn't get pictures of the first hour, cause I was in the pool with everyone, and it was fun seeing everyone with their kids in the pool, Neil playing flies up with his kids, kids doing handstands and splashing around, Steph and I were at the kiddie pool where even Peter got in the water and happily enjoyed himself. He went down the frog slide over and over for 30 minutes, and then spendt some time jumping into my arms (cautiously!) from the side of the pool. Then he was like this with an attitude for the rest of the time.
I thought he needed a nap but he never fell asleep there. But his clingy-ness did get me out of having to go off the 2nd platform with the other moms, good job Trice and Steph! Peter and his cousin Caleb tussled a little bit over the bag of raisins.
They seemed to be trying to establish who is the dominant 2 year old. Peter is younger, but Caleb currently has a foot in a brace so had a bit of a handicap, so Peter was thinking he might be able to take him. I stayed with them under the pavilion for most of the time, and we were very grateful that Grant and Stephanie got there in time to get a pavilion, it saved us! Cause it was hot. Some cloud cover did come around 4 so that was nice. JT and Grant were throwing kids in the pool and doing the helecopter!
Owen and Daniel loved that! It was super fun to watch. We stayed there until 4:30, then cleaned and packed up, it took a bit of effort to get to the car, I wasn't home until 5:20 and we were supposed to be at Anzak at 5:30, doh! So we did a quick change and grabbed some food (we brought ice cream and fruit) and I put on some soccer shorts to pretend that I was feeling competitive. My mom had sent up a potluck feast already, but we all contributed more and there was a ton of food. We played soccer on the bricks for a bit until everyone showed up.
Owen and Peter ate watermelon, chips, and cookies.
After eating, soccer started up again and we moved onto the grass field. I declared Neil and I team captains, cause seniority rules. We split them up pretty evenly, except we didn't know which team to put Grant on, cause he was the 3rd adult and would tip the scale for his team. We joked that he was the last one picked "No one wants Grant on their team!" He was wearing dark, but did have a little red lettering on his shirt, so it could work, and Neil let us have him. Yahoo! The teams were dark "The Dark Side": Neil, Lucy, Mikey, Sophi, Edmund and people wearing red/pink, we called ourselves "Fireballs": Me, Grant, Sam, Dallon, Jayden, Eli. And it was fun. Neil and I tried to ham it up, Grant and I had some good passes, everyone cheered each other on and the score was pretty even. Sam kept stopping Mikey and we could tell there was some sibling rivalry going on there, and then Corey joins in the game and was on the Dark Side and scored two freaking goals like within minutes of each other and helped the dark side win! Corey had come to this gathering but didn't participate today because he was feeling sick. He went to the doctor and has shingles, but maybe he's been faking it! We were just teasing him, cause I know he's sick, but it was nice of him to play anyway. He said that that 5 minutes was his workout for the week, whereas he wishes he had my energy, cause I've been going strong all day without a break! It was fun. I didn't get any pics of the game but will post some later if any of my siblings got any. The soccer game ended when it started to rain on us. It was just sprinkles for about 10 minutes but then it started hard, so we ran for cover under the pavilion. The kids had been having fun on the slide, and Kimberly found 4 big black stag beetles and the kids were all playing with them.
The rain is much needed, so there were no complaints. It cleared up quick and the kids were playing again, Sophi is a little sports animal! Hockey, soccer, and she went off the 1st platform too!
The adults visited, kids kept eating and playing on the playground. Then we took the group pic which is the pic at the top of this post. The clouds gave us a beautiful sunset.
Jerusha's husband Jared saw my mom and dad holding each other and looking at the sunset, and said "Ooo! Look at Kim and Linda over there! Getting all romantic!" and we turned and looked and noticed Neil behind them, who was urging them to pose, ha! They're good sports.
Then we adults stood around and visited more and the kids played on the playground until it was dark. We were
going to have a dance party here at our home after
like in 2019 (end of post), but we are all responsible adults and knew it was too late for that. Plus, if we did it, it would mess up tomorrow, so Daniel was sad that "we didn't have the party!" but I was like "Dude, we have been partying all day, it's ok..." And now it's 10:17 and we're turning in. We have one more activity tomorrow morning with some of the Hibbert cousins - a bike ride/hike/hang around at the Temple Quarry Trail at 10. Corey is heading down to pick up Abi at 7 from her EFY week, then heading to Provo to pick up Wes from his EFY Habits camp. We're excited to see them again. Corey has gone to bed to try to beat me to sleep (cause if I fall asleep first, I snore, and then he can't fall asleep). I'm killing a bit of time for a second more - Lily is clipping away at her toe nail. She hurt it in Lake Tahoe on those cursed heavy Marriott doors and it pulled it off, but it's still stuck at the root and was bothering her after soccer, so yeah she soaked it after we got home and is trying to clip most of it off. And I just checked on the kids and Peter and Daniel are
very wide awake... I don't know how that is possible, esp for P cause he's had only like a 10 minute nap today in the car ride home after swimming and then woke up while I put the food in the car. I'm going to go to bed anyway. I bet they will be in here sometime around midnight. Goodnight.
