Today is Melodie's Happy Birthday! We've had a wonderful 24 years enjoying the magic of Mel. In celebration, I now share a few of my favorite blog posts about Mel, that:
- capture how she is a natural mother.
- ...and such a fun character!
- (...and sometimes weird)
- but always creative and able to make us laugh and join in her ideas
- She can have a fun time with anything
- and I'm grateful she captures family quotes for us all to laugh about
I had plans today to go down to Provo to take her out to lunch. I'm trying to make policy on what to do with my college kids for their birthdays. I took Hyrum out to lunch for his birthday, so I'm trying that again. I know money is always appreciated by these poor college students, but we really don't have any either, so... lunch it is. (I'm hoping they enjoy having one on one time with their dear ol' mother?) Time together is a gift, right??
The day started with Corey and I going climbing early this morning, then I hurried back home to get kids to school. Abi needed the van again today, cause she had lyceum after school again (there's a concert tomorrow). K woke up early with Abi (which doesn't usually happen), so when we got home from climbing, she was watching "Aurora" (Sleeping Beauty) with Owen. I got he boys off to school and then found that she had put herself down for an early nap at 8:30. I told Mel I'd come as soon as she woke up.
But she was still sleeping at 11:45. Well Katharine, I appreciate all the time you have given me. If I had known you would be out so long, I guess I would have tried to go deeper into being productive. Oh well. I decided to wake her up and we haded out. "Let's go see Mel! It's Mel's birthday!" Katharine was down for it. I heard from the backseat "Mom, look..."Katharine! You're so funny! We picked up Mel and then we went to Aubergine.
Then we had a feast.
We got a lemon cake for Katharine, which she didn't really care for. So we both fed her some of our bowls. Mel got the Thai bowl, which I've never ordered. I usually get the good earth or the Vitality bowl.
And of course Brownie Layers. Yum. Katharine wouldn't share the brownie layers willingly, so we snuck bites from behind her back (sorry/not sorry).
Peter brought home an ornament that they made for Christmas for their moms. They sent a message saying that they were a little fragile...
Peter was sad when he opened his backpack and saw that his clay hand was absolutly shattered. It was too many pieces for me to glue back together, but I told him I'd try (and I did try for 5 seconds to piece it together, but didn't try to glue it). After they were all home, I made a quick escape for a walk at 4:15. I set a timer and walked for 20 and then returned, because 40 minutes of walking 3x a week will help my hippocampus! Yesterday I also watched this video by Eric Berg on 7 fruits that can kill cancer: berries (blue and black), citrus fruits (lemon, lime grapefruit), pomegranates, grapes, tomatoes, avocados, olives. Mel hosted a party for herself tonight. Abi went over to join after she was done with Lyceum. I'm glad the kids like to spend time with each other. She had fun. Mel made some Maracuja cake. We told Abi to bring us some. I bet passion fruit kills cancer, thou prob not the condensed milk. I'll post some pics after she sends them to me.
