And what do you know, guess which show was rebroadcast! Lobster Bisque! The kids were pretty excited. The bisque as food wasn't a hit, but they love to watch the bisque sketch, even if they have it memorized.
When I was growing up, my siblings and I were pretty obsessed with the Monkees. We'd watch and record on VHS all of their shows. My mother would sometimes say in an exasperated tone "Can't we have any original conversations around here?" But then would count her blessings that atleast we all liked a wholesome and innocent silly show like the Monkees. (One of the most frequently quoted was "You are too short!" from this sketch, start at 19:12). It's fun to see my kids having the same experiences. Instead of Bill Cosby, they've got Brian Regan. And they've got Studio C for their Monkees. We can hardly drive anywhere without a quote or sketch being interlaced into our dialogue. When I took Melodie to get her ballet shoes, we passed by a little building that advertised their business and immediately thought of the Present Day in "Generationals" ~
Ok, Hibberts, here's a quick Monkees refresher from one of their best episodes: The Picture Frame. Let's see who can finish the quotes below!
10:28 ~ "You ready to spill the beans?!"
13:50 - "Mr. Nesmith, I'm surprised at you, Guh!"
15:20 ~ "Mr. Thomas, what is the capital of Nova Scotia?"
