Some Violin Stuff

I've had a bit of violin on the brain this weekend. It started with going to the symphony on Friday night for the John Williams concert and hearing the Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Suite and being blown away by how freaking fast those violins are going at the beginning of the song. Not that I know hardly anything about playing the violin yet, but from what I do know and understand about it... wow.

And so after that, on Saturday I spent time watching probably too much of a new youtube channel I like - Two Set Violin. Kinda nerdy funny. I liked these two about them sharing a very very bad violin acting portrayal in a movie, and this one acting portrayal that they said was really good. I'm not a musician yet, but I might be ready to be an aspiring orchestra geek since I'm find this interesting. Here's another one of them reacting to celebrities playing instruments. I enjoyed that one too, and I'm learning a little bit about what all the little things that go into playing.

At our lessons today, Natalie went first. I went in for a little bit, and Sophi took selfies on my phone.
I didn't take any photos today, so thank you to Sophi for providing some pics for today's post. She took 33 pictures.
Once we are at the violin lessons, I usually start to have lots of questions I want to ask Amy. Most of it is stuff I'm sure I could find out online, but I don't think of it until I'm there with her. So after Natalie and Sophi, I had a quick 5 minute lesson, which is okay cause I do so much more practicing than the girls at home that that is all the instruction I need. So I played a little bit of Long Long Ago and got a few pointers about getting deeper into the strings. I saved my questions until I got home and googled rosin things tonight. I found this video helpful. And I want to learn how to properly clean/maintenance my violin. So, it was a good violin day, but now I've wasted too much time on youtube and it's past midnight. I'll never been this good (Two Set imitating and trying to guess famous violinists), and probably shouldn't try. I've never heard of any of those violinist. but I liked watching that video. Brett and Eddy are funny and I liked Ray Chen's reactions too. I liked the comment that that was a video of what band nerds do in their free time, ha. My goal with violin is to keep up with Sophi and Natalie and to ultimately maybe be able to play a song at church sometime in the next 10 years.

Trust In God Fireside

Tonight we went to a fireside with Michelle and Jon Schmidt - Jon of the Piano Guys and his wife Michelle, author of Carried. It was wonderful - It was me, Mel, Abi, Hyrum, Wesley and Peter. Mel and Abi and I stuck around afterward to get a picture with the Michelle and Jon.
I read her book two weeks ago, loved it. And then 10 days ago I was listening to Piano guys all the time as I blogged - catching up on Joseph's blog and other computer work. I thought I'd do all that in preparation for the fireside tonight, and it does just leave me in awe of them and of the good fruit of Latter Day Saints around the world. Members of the Church of Jesus Christ are doing such awesome things, I'm thankful to claim them as my brothers and sisters in the gospel. I love the Piano Guys! (Two others of my gospel peeps - Timothy Ballard and Nathan Pacheco).

I didn't take notes, I just enjoyed the fireside. But here are a few thoughts from what I can remember -

Michelle started the meeting, showing a picture of herself when she was like 10 or so - a cute girl with big front teeth, frizzy hair, and a look that, Michelle said, was probably wondering "Am I going to be okay? What does the future hold for me? Will anyone ever love me? Does God love me?" She showed a picture of Jon too. Then told of how they met and a few stories from their family's history. A lot of what the shared is in her book, like what Jon's mission president told him. Things that have happened to help them learn to know of God's love and to know they can trust Him to help them.

So a few things Jon said - he talked about how he and Michelle, and then he and the Piano Guys, often use "Prayer Lists". Like sometimes they just have so many things they need help with, that they can't remember it all, so they write it down. Then they pray and go over each thing. Jon shared that God is our Personal Assistant!! He loves us! He wants to help us! He is aware of what we need more than we are! He can help us! I had thought before that that was a bad thing, to treat God like he was my secretary - I got that idea from a talk that I loved, called "Return of the King" by Larry Wilson - here's the quote:

Each of us faces a choice. We can choose to see ourselves as the Lord’s servants and humbly seek to know what He wants us to be doing with the talents and time He has given us. As such, we can seek to enlarge His kingdom and prepare it for His return. Or we may imagine that the story is all about us. Too many fall into this trap. They forget that they are His servants and begin to imagine that He is theirs. They think erroneously that Christ came to make all their dreams come true. For those in such a trap, prayer becomes like dropping memos on a desk in a heavenly office: “Could you please take care of this as soon as possible?”

So maybe there is a difference between those two things: We can't treat God like a servant, but we can counsel with him and tell him what we think, then ask him for his assistance if that will work or if there is something more we should think of or be aware of. Anyway, I loved that thought that God is our Personal Assistant and to make Prayer Lists. It will give me a little more courage to come to him with my useless cares. I know there are such bigger problems in the world, but he still loves me, is aware of my struggles, and he will help me too. So Jon said that when they were filming Fight Song, there were so many things that needed to happen. They had originally tried to film in Utah, but it wasn't great, and then an opportunity came to film at their dream location - the Eilean Donan Castle in Dornie, Scotland!! But - they were so many conflicts on their calendar, they didn't know how could they get over there to film it? They figured out that they could do it on a certain Monday and Tuesday in October. Then they found out that the weather there in Scotland in October was horrible - like horizontal rain all the time. Should they buy the airfare? Should they go forward with it? They wrote down all the things they would need, like good weather on that Monday and Tuesday. They would need to find a few other locations to film in a forest that would have proper lighting, etc etc. Oh, and they would need to be able to find a bagpipe band shortly after they landed. And they would need the people in that bagpipe band to all be available on that Monday and Tuesday for shooting. And they would all need to be able to learn the music in like an hour. Jon said it was kinda ridiculous all the things they needed. And for them to now ever to deny the miracles that happened would just be ingratitude on their part. But at the time, they didn't know if it would work out? Still, they felt okay about going forward, even with all the unknowns and uncertain details not figured out. So they bought tickets to fly and out. When they got there, they thought "It will be okay with God if we just go to the first hour of church and then leave to go find locations to film." So they decided that, said a prayer for confirmation, they all got up and then looked at each other with the same impression... "Nope, we're going to all three hours of church...." So off they went to church. In the 3rd hour, a sister came up and said "Do you guys need a bagpipe band? I am the president of a band. I could have them all there tomorrow...." (Miracle!) The weather was a little rainy on and off the first day, but was perfect on the Tuesday. Some people that helped them move the piano said told them about a place to film that would be perfect, a little place that only the locals knew about. It all came together bit by bit as they went forward with Trust in God. Then we watched this video at the fireside.

It was so funny, cause after it was over, Michelle stood and said "Doesn't that all look wonderful and beautiful!? But even after all the miracles that got us there, then the drone's battery died and people were jumping off the bridge into the water to save the footage!" So moral of the story - even an amazing song and video like that has a big messy story behind it! Life is messy, but we can still do beautiful and amazing things with God's help. Here is a little behind the scenes write up of Fight Song on the Piano Guys blog.

It was so great, and I was just so full of admiration of love for him and his wife. At the end he played "I Can't Help Falling in Love With You" by Elvis Presley. We were sitting on the 2nd row in the front by the piano, so we had a good seat. At the end Peter got a little fussy, so I was going to take him out but stood by the back door so I wouldn't miss the final song. I loved it.
Before he began to play that final number, he said that was just how he felt about all of us. And that is what the gospel and the spirit of Christ does for us, it turns our hearts to one another and we're full of love, we can't help falling in love with each other! Wherever you find the Church of Jesus Christ, you will find a little corner of heaven, ZION!

It was great. And just a few more Piano Guys things - Beethoven's 5 Secrets is one of my favorites to listen to, especially when walking in nature or in the mornings.

When Stars and Salt Collide is beautiful! Their videos are as amazing as their music!! I wonder if each of these videos has a messy story behind it? Here is one more that was on their channel - a song Jon's son Spencer wrote, with Annie singing it in. They really didn't share that much about the hard trial they faced when Annie went missing, so go read MIchelle's book for that. One thing Jon said though, was that as they were praying to find her, and getting a little frustrated with what seemed like silence from heaven, they had to help each other trust God. Jon said a prayer, "God, we know that you know exactly where Annie is and that you could take us to her within 3 hours. But even if you don't answer our prayer right away today, please help us remember all the times that you have." And it still took several weeks, but he said that that prayer felt good, felt connected. And they went forward in faith. Now looking back, Michelle said, it was probably merciful that it took so long to find her and that there was so much rain calling off the search so many times, cause it helped Annie's body decompose. They said it would have been hard to find her body and have it look like her, but when they found it, it was really just bones, and that made it easier. They had impressions she had passed away early on, so they felt they were just looking for her body. Again, for more on that part of the story, read Michelle's book "Carried"

They will see her again. We will all see and be with our loved ones again, thanks to Jesus Christ. O Come, O Come Emmanuel  (I hope Piano Guys get played on loud speaker during the second coming!)

Homecoming Halftime

Tonight was the Homecoming Dance for our high school kids. It was Hyrum's first date, fun! Here are their pictures: Hyrum and Jayda - (waiting for that to be emailed to me)

Hyrum had an ACT Prep class today, so he was busy from 8:30 - 3:30. I was a little stressed from shopping with 4 kids at 2 stores and then going to go find him downtown, but he didn't have a phone, and the elevators locked up, so I was able to get in it with my 4 kids in tow, but then couldn't go up, so I had to go down to the parking garage and then walk around and back up to Level 1, again with my baby in a carrier and 3 toddlers walking with me, I was a little irritated and frustrated. Anyway, found him, got him home, and he hurried and got ready for his date.

Ethan and Katherine
Ethan was gone all day with doing stuff to set up at the school (part of his job as an sbo), then a day activity (I think) then getting ready and dressed, pictures, dinner, then the dance, where he was set to rap with the band and play along with his sax for a few numbers. Melodie came up for homecoming today too, cause her roommate was playing in the band that Ethan arranged. I think Mel just came for fun, she didn't play her flute with them. I hope they had fun. Last night, the homecoming weekend didn't start off that great. After the game, when Ethan came home he was telling us about it and had us laughing as he shared with us that things had not gone according to plan. After a full day at school, Ethan had to head down to Crescent, but he also had to set up for Eaglefest before the game. Luckily he has two willing younger brothers and they stayed in his behalf to set up while he went to Crescent. But then after a 20 minute drive, the Soundhouse called and said Ethan was ok to miss, so then he turned around and headed back to Skyline. I hear Eaglefest was fun, and then it was the Homecoming Game. Ethan was really excited for that because he is in a guy dance group at school called "The Lingeries". The girls have a drill team called the La Niches" so this is the guy version of it but named after women's undergarments for some reason. Mostly they are just having fun and being silly, but they do try to dance and if they do a good move they get big applause. They performed for the Hello day assembly, but only the freshman go to the assemblies "cause they can't drive and leave" like the rest of the older and cooler student do. So there was a homecoming assembly today, but none of Ethan's friends were there, just the freshmen. (Wes said the Lingeres did a good job). Ethan's friends who hadn't seen the performance told Eth to not worry, they'd be at the game to see how awesome it was. Ethan had talked it up to all of us and to his friends, it was gonna be epic. The lingeries have had rehearsals this past week and they have some girls from the dance team help them with choreography. So, last night they were set to perform at half time. They were the first act. When the moment came, they were filled with excitement as they walked onto the field. They all did their best Saturday Night Fever disco pose and then waited for the music to start. Here we go!!! And they waited. And they waited....patience, any second... Then they started to wonder... "Where's the music?"  Their fingers were getting cold, so a few of them put their fingers down. Soon panic set in and "What is going on? What do we do?" They soon learned that no one gave the music to the person in the booth in charge of the speaker. Ethan said there was a voice speaking down to them from the press box, like the voice of God in the sky, asking "Do you guys have the music?" Some of the guys ran off the field to try to fix things, the Lingeries huddled in a group, it's ok, we got this. Five long minutes pass... still no music. Again the voice came and questioned "Well do you guys just want to dance or what?" They were encouraged by the crowd to just dance anyway, so they did, but without music, And it was just "cringy" was the word Ethan used to describe it. They finished, then they ran off the field in shame. Ethan pulled his hoodie closed over his head to hide himself and they tried to disappear into the crowd. Some quotes from our conversation last night as Ethan told the story to us - "I was literally tearing up..." Such a deceptive high as they strided onto the field, such a low shame as they ran off in humiliation. Corey tried to comfort him "Well, it's hard to dance without music..." Ethan replied "It's hard for us to dance with music!! We literally ruined the entire halftime!" They took so long trying to fix it that there wasn't time for any of the other dancers to do their prepared numbers. Then Corey said "Hmm. Well, if we had done a reality tv show, that would have been a really good episode..." Wes chimed in "It was hard to watch..."  (← and that comment came from a low standards freshman!! Think of what all of the seniors are saying!!) Oh the horror. Ethan continued to think and relive the experience as he stood and shook his head, staring off into the distance... "Such confidence when we walked on..." I was laughing hard. We promised him it will make a good memory. Corey told him to write it down, but I said I'd take care of it here, ha. Another comment from Ethan: "We danced like no one was watching. But everyone WAS watching." Followed by "I had a lot of hugs tonight..." as people tried to console him. He said the Lingeries are over, none of "the bois" want to dance again. They are retiring. They failed. Ethan said "We're supposed to inspire people! That was our chance." We'll see if they can overcome this, cause the Lingeries were one of the highlights of the school assemblies back when I was at Skyline. They were funny. We'll see if they are able to recover and to once again bring laughter to their fellow students.

Minor Reunion

Tonight my mom and dad treated Corey and I to a night out. My mom called me last month to see if we'd be available on Sep 20 to go to a Thomas Minor Society reunion event, which would include a dinner out followed by a night a the symphony. Hey, we are not ones to pass up a night at the symphony! Plus it was a concert of "The Music of John Williams" so ya know it would be really good. And then I found out today that dinner was going to be at the Roof!! Sweet!! The bad news was that, with Peter being sick this past week, I didn't think I should leave him. Plus it would just be with Abi here at home babysitting, cause Joseph and Mel don't live here anymore, and Ethan, Hyrum, and Wes are all busy at school tonight for the homecoming game. So, I asked my mom's advice. She said Peter would be okay to take to dinner, and we'd just have to figure out how to juggle him at the symphony, where no "babes in arms" are allowed. So, Abi was good at home with "just" 5 kids to watch, easy peasy. And we left with Peter. Dinner was great.
Good company too with my mom and dad, sister Beka, aunts and uncles and some cousins who were there, plus other people from out of town. My mom is a Minor but with the "Miner" spelling, her mom was a Miner. My oldest cousin on that side of the family, Mary Lynn, was in charge of arranging the reunion this year, which is why it was hosted here in Salt Lake. Peter very much enjoyed the chocolate mousse. I was glad that he has gotten his appetite back.
Cute little messy face.
After dinner, we went over to Abravanel Hall. Corey went in and I stayed out to nurse Peter. But there wasn't a good place to sit with him, so I walked over to the Church History Museum, where I knew there was a nursing room.
(Plus I wanted to see the 11th International Art Exibit!!) My favorite from what I saw tonight was "Crystal Apple and Fig Leaves" - just gorgeous. That was the last one I tried to look at before Peter was too fussy, so took a quick picture so I could share it with Corey.
I loved being there!!! The fruit of the church and of it's faithful members is so good! I didn't have time to see everything or to look at the works I liked for very long, so I took lots of pictures and have plans to come back next Friday for that date night. The one that surprised me the most, of the ones I saw tonight, was "Meditation", just so cool. Plus I always love all of Rose Datoc Dall's art, Living Waters was no exception. Oh to be able to capture scripture stories like she does! I also thought "The Plan of Salvation" was amazing. So cool, can't wait to go back.

I was back at Abravanel hall before intermission started. I watched some of the concert from the lobby where they had a big tv. When intermission began, Corey came out and I went in for a little bit of the second half. I left after the Harry Potter song cause when I texted Corey to see how my Peter was doing, he texted back "screaming". So I left, Peter needs me. But the 20 minutes I saw of the concert was sufficient to blow me away. Seriously, the violin playing in that Harry Potter number!!! Just wow. It was a great evening. I'm so glad that Corey and I make time for date night, even when we spend half of it apart like tonight, it still fills my cup.

Daniel is 3!

Happy Birthday to Daniel!!
I didn't do an early morning birthday run to the store, cause 3 year olds don't care, yay. I did give everyone some popsicles before school. We had birthday cake after everyone was home from school.
Daniel was cute blowing out the candles. I think the favorite gift was these pajamas from my mom.
And with those awesome pj's, there is a good chance that I just got Halloween taken care of too!! Sweet. Sophi went and borrowed a Jessie outfit from a neighbor so she could play with them.
Lily made up a Bo Peep outfit, but then Natalie was sad cause there wasn't any other girl thing for her to be (she didn't want to be Gabby Gabby) so her fussing over that kinda ruined the game, but they had fun for a little while outside. Owen and Daniel were up early this morning and played nicely most all the day with the new toys. I gave Daniel his present, and I didn't wrap it. It was just in the Walmart plastic bag. And that's ok, cause 3 year olds don't care!! It was two sets of Little People versions of the Toy Story 4 characters. It was simple, and he got some more gifts from Corey's parents, and he is happy, and with that we are done for a few months. Yessss.

In other news, this afternoon Owen and Daniel were throwing around a C and T thing that was supposed to be on a high shelf in my room. I saw what they had, then looked up at the high shelf/window, and the photo collage thing was gone! It had been knocked on the floor along with the glass temple that was on our wedding cake! I hadn't heard anything crash... when did that happen!?!? Did a bird fly into the window again? (Wow, that was 5 years ago!) Maybe Owen and Daniel had been throwing the toys around and hit it up there? My jewelry box fell down and a little glass unicorn necklace thing in there from my childhood broke into 4 pieces, but Lily helped me find the pieces and I was able to fix it. Miraculously, the glass temple fell in the garbage on top of all of Peter's soft dirty diapers (not a lot of #2, but a lot of diapers cause he's been sick this week with the runs) so the only thing that broke on that was the little angel, which I was able to glue back on. That was a little miracle that it didn't shatter into a hundred pieces.
The glass on the collage was no so lucky.
So getting that reframed is now on the to-do list sometime this next month before it gets dusty. And that was today. Peter is doing a little better. No fever today, but still fussy and still mostly wants to be held. He slept this evening and I was able to clean the kitchen, yay. Hopefully he'll feel a little more better tomorrow.

Sick Day

Peter has been sick the past 48 hours. Yesterday during the early morning he woke up at 4:30 feeling very hot. I gave him a bath, we had a stay at home day, and in the evening I texted our pediatrician (and neighbor) who is so nice and came by for a house call. He said Peter has a slight ear infection, so he called in a prescription for Amoxicillin for him. Like an hour after that, some sick bug kicked in for me. Usually I don't get sick when the kids are sick, but last night something hit me that made me feel like it looked like Peter felt.
I just wanted to lay down and not move. I had a headache and felt nauseous, so we took another bath and then headed to bed. I was grateful that I felt better this morning, so I took carpool, but then Peter and I have just taken it easy most of the day.
He's also been super snuggly, which I've enjoyed cause that's new. He's been so busy trying to crawl for the past two months that it's funny/slightly irritating. When I hold him, he seriously puts his feet on my hips or into my stomach and pushes his legs straight and locks them. Like he's standing up on me horizontally. He's just been a busy mover. I took a little video of him nursing this past week, and he was wiggling around so much, he was seriously twisting and was on his head and standing and trying to touch his toes and he held on to me with his mouth.
He was doing baby yoga as he nursed. So yeah, that doesn't make nursing fun, so I've gotten what I wanted for a little bit to finally have my snuggly baby back, sorry Peter that you had to be sick to make that happen though! I haven't gotten a lot done housework wise, and there's not much to report. Other than today the last caterpillar j-hooked and tried to change into his chrysalis...
This little guy was just doing awesome and eating up a storm, and he was our biggest one. He j-hooked last night and I checked on him throughout the day to see how the transformation was going, and in the afternoon I saw he was emerging, but then it looked like he needed help - like he was stuck like one of our fatalities last year (second half of that post). I thought I had caught him at the beginning of the process though, so maybe I could help him? I ran in to get tweezers, hoping that maybe I could pull the skin off and help it split so he could keep going, but it didn't work. He must have been trying to emerge for a while cause the wet green part of him was dried and stuck to the black part, so as soon as I tried to pull the black skin off, it tore a hole in him and he started to drip to death. Or... I maybe didn't grab the black skin part and accidentally pulled the green and/or poked a hole in him? So either way, I failed.
But his wing areas were trying to poke up and over the black skin, he was really stuck, it was sad. But what can you do.... He has now gone the way of all the earth. Thus is the life of a caterpillar farmer.

Fat Cats

We've been doing pretty good at doing activities for Family home evening the past few weeks. Last night we went to Fat Cats for some bowling and miniature golf. Corey, Ethan, and Owen bowled.
Ethan has been taking bowling at a class at school, and talked up the high scores he gets, so he was struggling last night when he kept being in last places after each frame. Corey had a strike, Owen had a strike and a spare, and Ethan was struggling in 3rd.
Owen was a cute blowler with his yellow ball.
Final scores - Eth 77, Corey 88, Owen 88. While they were bowling the rest of the kids did glow in the dark miniature golf.
The bowlers finished first, so they started another game. Ethan was ready to redeem himself.
Owen's got his ball and is ready to bowl. At that time the golfers were just finishing up.
(I spent most of my time feeding Peter on a bench by the bowling lane) So, after getting the kids from golf, they killed time at the arcade. Of course Daniel's favorite once again was skee ball!
Say Cheese Daniel!
And show me your "excited" face
I didn't let anyone else take Daniel's balls. He rarely was able to roll them up and over the edge, so it kept him quite occupied to just push them up and and have them roll right back down to him.
I don't care if he's not playing the game "right" - as long as he's happy and it keeps him busy, it's all good. He got one in!

He took a little break to go sit on the motorbike.
Back at the balls with Owen and Sophi.

Did you see Sophi swipe a ball from Daniel at the end there? Hey Sophi! You're really good, but don't steal the balls from the 2 year old!
It was cute to watch him. That was my job tonight - hold Peter and watch Daniel.
I took way too many pictures of him, not very many of everyone else. I don't know where they were, but they did all get candy from the prize counter.
I was glad that Daniel stayed busy with the balls, and the kids shared their suckers with Daniel when it was time to leave. But it was cute to watch him.
Yeah, D! You got them all!
He started to really concentrate and stick out his tongue.
We love Daniel, he's a cute little boy.
It was fun to be there together.
Fat Cats with the Get Out pass gets two thumbs up.

Abi's Braces Off

Look who has a pretty new smile! It's Abi!!
She got her braces off today! She got them on in January 2018.
Wow, what a transformation, am I right? It's amazing how much she's grown in a year and a half from a little girl into a young woman. Or is it just a straight set of teeth that makes her look 16? Dr. Dave apologized if he holds responsibility for making our little Abi grow up to quickly and be too pretty too soon. Well, there's probably that could have been done to stop it. Not much we poor parents can do to freeze time and stop these kids from growing up! Daniel jumped in the chair while Abi went to get x-rays and pictures taken
You don't need braces already, Daniel, do you?!?! No, he just wanted to drive his toy cars on the brown chair, which was actually a mountain in their eyes.
Owen cruising his train down the slopes
Daniel's car heading toward a cliff!
Peter is crawling. He chased a waterbottle around the floor by me.
Here are some previous posts about our family's Orthodontic experiences -
 - Consultation visit Feb 2015
 - Joseph braces on Feb 2015
 - Wes braces on Feb 2015
 - Wes got his braces off November 2015
 - Hyrum braces on March 2016
 - Joseph probably got his braces off somewhere at the end of 2016, but I think since he was driving then, he just went in himself and I never took a picture? or if I did I didn't document it here. Or I just can't find it. Anyway, I don't know when Joseph got his braces off, though I could probably call the office to find out. I won't do that now though.
 - Hyrum braces off October 2017
 - Me invisalign on June 2018.
 - Mel got her invisalign on in May this past year, 2019, I'll see if she has a picture.
I get my invisalign off next month, and then we'll get family pictures taken, yay!

Sophia's Baptism Day

Today was a very special day for this little girl.
Today Sophia was baptized a member of the Church of Jesus Christ. Corey baptized her - here they are pre-Corey's jumpsuit.
And with Corey dressed and ready for the font.
Me, Sophi, and Corey.
My phone camera was a bit blurry. I'm almost thinking of switching to an iphone, since Ethan always lets me know how much better their camera quality is. And cause that's one of the things I use my phone for the most. It was a nice baptism. Abi and I gave talks. I shared a little message from Joseph in mine (at the end of this post on his mission blog). Hyrum and Wes gave prayers, the grandpa's were the witnesses for the baptism. My mom, sister, and Mel provided the music for us. We are grateful to be and to have family that are members of the church of Jesus Christ. All of our kids that are 8 and older have been baptized (only 2 are documented here on the blog - Abi's and Lily's. I know I took pictures of all of them. I should find a way to document those before the photos are lost forever and/or forgotten...) Sophi looked so sweet. You gotta love 8 year olds.
She is holding a little keepsake box that they gave her - everyone wrote a message for Sophi or their testimony for Sophi to keep to remember this day). It was a nice simple service. So Sophi's baptism was the highlight of the day. And other than that, with the 3rd week of school under our belts, my body clock is pretty much set to waking up at 5:30. This morning I woke up at 5:09, and so I went to the temple! And I did a session! Good job me.
There was a lovely full harvest moon behind the temple. And the land that I love had it's banner waving in the wind. It looked really cool. This picture doesn't capture that, obviously, but it does help me remember the moment. The sun was up and shining when I was finished. On my way out the flowers wished me to have a good day.
You have a good day too, pretty flowers!
I stopped by Walmart on my way home to get some Epsom salts for Ethan's toe, hoping it heals this time. And I also got some refreshments for guests after Sophi's baptism (soy yogurt, bananas, and frozen berries). When I got home, my next priority was to upload a photo and get it printed, which I haven't done in YEARS. I printed this picture that I took of Sophi yesterday so that we could put it on the little table at her baptism.
She liked that one better because you couldn't see her teeth. I liked the one at the start of this blog post, but I realized after it was printed up in a 8x10 that you could see the spaghetti sauce that was on her face after dinner, oops! Mel came up for the baptism. But she slept in and was too late for the bus, so my sister Beka was nice and went to pick her up. They were the last ones to arrive, and as they came hustling into the church with their dresses and back packs, I thought they looked like sister missionaries!!
Mel will make a great missionary. She's planning on serving next summer, but we'll see if she gets married first while she's at BYU, ha. The kids were cute during the baptism.
Mel and Beka did a very  nice musical number.
They played "He Sent His Son"
I hope I can always remember the big and excited smile that was on Sophi's face as she came up out of the water. I hope she never forgets the happiness the gospel brings. She is such a good girl. Another one of my babies is all grown up!!
