Half Way

We are half way through this last week of school before winter break. Yay. I took Owen to trumpet today, last time "this year". We finalized extended family plans with Corey's siblings for this Sunday to get together before we leave for our trip to Florida. We are going to go visit JeNeal's gravesite at the cemetery, then going to Wayne's for lunch and gift giving. Hyrum arrived home for the holidays, ready to participate in the festivities. He and Mel will be our support team for the trip to Las Vegas and on our way to Florida. Hyrum beat the snow storm that was coming in and had a safe and uneventful drive down from BYU Idaho.

Little boys are glad to have him here to increase the male numbers. Peter and Daniel paying with legos in their room.

Peter and Katharine helping me make dinner last night - macaroni and cheese (yes, Peter has been wearing the same clothes for two days.)

And then painting before we went to bed. It's very important to get nice and messy after a bath.

Good, good... that's right, up the arm, all over the hand...

You want to get really good coverage.

They are cute. Katharine has been drawing and painting on herself a lot lately. Sometimes I help. I did this butterfly on her face on Dec 11th.

Painting is good. It keeps them busy, with the added bonus that it washes off of bodies. We haven't had markers on the walls for a while, so it's good. A funny meme I saw on facebook, ha.

Yesterday I took a ride up the canyon on the trail. 11.30 miles, Ruins and Techy. Pretty melted and icy. It was 40 degrees at home, 35 on the trail. I took silver bike thinking it would be easier to do the climb (cause I wasn't feeling it) but it was so melted that there were lots of rocks showing and I wished I had my shocks. I took the decent very cautiously but still had a slip and fall, prob cause I didn't have my dropper post. Lesson learned. Take the Fezzari.

Nothing too crazy going on here at home, which is good, cause there are crazy things happening in the world. One of the biggest things that Corey and I can't believe is that Trump won the election last month. It's just insane. He is a very wicked man, thus we think it's bad that he has become the President. We share with each other almost every day things that we catch in the news. We try to keep tabs on what conservatives and MAGA and liberals are all saying. You have to listen to everyone. So many people are just in an echo chamber and don't know what other people are seeing and saying. Esp people in other countries seem to be as surprised as Corey and I are that we let this mad man come to power again. I sent Corey this text about Trump from Heather Cox Richardson's email from last night:

"Yesterday, Trump gave his first press conference since the election. It was exactly what Trump’s public performances always are: attention-grabbing threats alongside lies and very little apparent understanding of actual issues. His mix of outrageous and threatening is central to his politics, though: it keeps him central to the media, even though, as Josh Marshall pointed out in Talking Points Memo on December 13, he often claims a right to do something he knows very little about and has no power to accomplish. The uncertainty he creates is key to his power, Marshall notes. It keeps everyone off balance and focused on him in anticipation of trouble to come."

I guess that is happening to Corey and I. We are watching him and feel off balance - things are shaky.! We are praying for America. I hope we don't get what we deserve. And I will say again (this is a common rant) I cannot believe that people were so upset at Mitt for being a flip flopper and labeling him as rich and out of touch, and then they get behind Trump!??! It's just crazy. Ok, so I don't blog about that much, but Corey and I talk about the news it most everyday, but what are you going to do? Just do your best with the things that are actually in your control. Control the controlables and pray.
