I woke up early this morning at 5:25 and I was ready to take on life cause I took a nap yesterday, and also went to bed at a decent time despite not being totally tired (cause of taking a nap). I got ready to go climbing, left for that at 5:45, got there before it opened and waited for a minute in the car, then bouldered for 45 minutes. I knew I had to get it in early because the kids had a service concert this afternoon. I'm actually there right now, and instead of waiting inside, thought I'd blog for a few cause I've put in my time, I'm going to stay here and type and decompress for a few.
So after the disposal installation was done, I had a RS meeting for an hour, then K was awake. She's still got a cough. Peter stayed home today too with a cough, but then asked if he could go play with friends. Listen Peter, if you are well enough to play with friends (Lucy) you are well enough to go to school. Then it was funny cause then he started ranting about all the problems with kindergarten. How Some kid stole Peter's brachiosaurus "stamper" and now there are only trex stampers. And how someone always gets too close to him (Peter said they get into his "bubble" on the carpet) and also how someone always smiles at him! The nerve! It was kinda funny. I asked if the girl that smiles at him is trying to be mean or nice? He said she's trying to be nice, "but I don't like it!!!" I said if they are trying to be nice, then try to be nice back, even if it bothers him, and followed up with a "Wow! You are learning so much at school about how to be patient with others! That's great!" He dismissed that encouragement and continued to ran - kindergarten is too long and he'd rather be at home. I am there with you buddy. Poor Peter is the first kid who has had full day kindergarten (well, Mel did for a few months when we lived in Virginia before we moved to Brazil). I think it's a big adjustment and I know it's long for him and wipes him out. So Corey's been home, and Lily, Peter and K. I did take a small nap from noon to 12:25, and then went to pick up Abi, who also said she was sick, but had to toughen it out through the first of the day. I went to pick her up, then went by Churchill for Sophi and Natalie. But Sophi had texted me on my way out saying that she actually can't go to the concert, there was something in ballroom, which is 7th period, that she couldn't miss. Sophi said it was interviews. "like with the school newspaper?" Sounds like a weak excuse, but I guess if I have atleast one kid show up, it's ok. Natalie was shaking her head at Sophi for getting out of the service concert at the last minute and said it was probably a party. Ah well, I guess we'll let it slide. So I picked up Abi, then Natalie, took them home, then went to get Owen, took him home to change, then left with N&O to the concert, I was going to go home for a bit in between, so as to not dump P&K on Corey, but then Natalie called me as I was on my way to say she didn't have her violin bow in her case. Ugh, so home I went to get her bow, then back to the school, and now I'm sitting here enjoying personal time. That's my day so far. Natalie might want me to take her back to Churchill after to watch their basket ball game, cause it's against their rival school Wasatch. I don't know if I'll do it, but I know the request is waiting. Natalie also wants fast food as a reward for her musical service playing today. I told her she can impose upon me in one way - fast food OR a ride back out to school. Not both. We'll find out in 50 minutes which she chooses. They had a concert at 2 (I just barely got back in time with her violin bow! Like within seconds) and then they perform again for another group of kids at 2:45, so they'll be done at 3:30.
Later: hey, so for our FHE plan for today, the kids voted for ice skating. I wouldn't have minded if Corey just took them skating, but I didn't want to go. It was a busy day and I was just not feeling up for it (I rarely am.... I might be getting old.) I was able to sweet talk them out of skating by offering to get them Dunford Donuts.
It's nice to know that when I want to use it, they'll usually take a sugar bribe. I'll try to not complain when my bribes don't work and I have to suck it up. Natalie getting her sugar fix in the background here. And then we played Bank.Pretty Katharine, always dressed for a ball.
