I loved Conference today. This is the first General Conference in a while that I did not doze off for any of the talks! That was cause I was usually standing up, or getting up off the couch enough that I didn't have a chance to get drowsy. I did feel myself getting sleepy once, and then I got up off the couch to wake myself up. Owen took apart and re-built his lego while we listened to the first session.
My favorites from this session -
Emily Belle Freeman's talk about "best and worst days" was awesome. The World Report that was shared between conferences on the youtube live stream was SOOO GOOD. And THEN there was an art special about three commissioned pieces and THAT WAS SO AMAZING too - I was so inspired, I want to create art! I know God's given me a gift and talent for it. I'm excited to use it in the future and to work on developing it again.
Mel and Christian watched conference here with us. They made a Vegan nacho cheese with cashews and nutritional yeast between conference. I bought the nutritional yeast and chips last night on a late grocery run to Winco. It was a delicious and simple snack.
Then the Sunday afternoon session, Katharine and Peter playing with 3D dragons.
I had a bowl of white chocolate covered pretzels that I also got last night. I sat the bowl out to see who was still awake. It took a bit for people to notice them, haha. I enjoyed some while people were snoozing, some doodling on paper, and then they caught peoples attention and they nudged each other to let them know there was a treat. Daniel was nice and took some upstairs to Corey and people who were listening up there. The biggest laugh I got from conference was
Elder Packer's comment to Elder Anderson when he told him that they had been married for 25 years, followed with "Isn't that quite an accomplishment?" "It is for Kathy." haha! That was really funny. After conference, Corey, Mel and Christain, and the kids went over to Wayne's house for a bring your own food meal, I guess a BYOD = d for dinner? I stayed home to visit with my family on zoom and share our favorites General Conference moments.
I forgot to mention to them about how good the world report was. For real I cried for like 40 minutes straight as I listened to the world report that was between conferences on the youtube channel. Wow, I just love the church so much. SO MUCH GOOD that they do! That WE do! Cause our family is part of it! Loved it so much. From the giving machines providing two pigs to struggling families, to chromebooks in Mongolia, to helping with fires in Chile, to hurricane clean up in Jamaica, I was just in tears. I love my fellow latter day saints!
After getting off the call with my family, I worked on my lesson for next week (though I should really be packing for the camping trip tomorrow... oops) I was thinking about my lesson with each talk that I heard during Conference yesterday and today. I'm giving it on
Elder Christofferson's October 2025 talk. I wrote down how
Elder Thierry K. Mutombo looked to God when he and his wife had four of their 10 children pass away (what a hard trial!). Another one that made me think of looking to God was Elder Brian J. Holmes' example of a blind marathon runner and his guide. God will help us achieve great things even with our challenges. Tonight I found some photos that I'm going to print up and give as little handout.
I also liked this one of Jonathan Rumie - look at Christ, not the waves or the storms around us. Corey and I are trying to do that in our storm. We all have storms we are facing.
Look to Christ, not the storm or the problems or worries!
We finally watched Nuremberg tonight. It expires tomorrow, and we're gonna be gone on a spring break trip, so tonight was the night. Pretty sobering movie. While we watched that, Natalie made a fort again, this time in the front room.... ugh.
They are sleeping down there. I hope a music stand doesn't fall on anyone while they are sleeping. Now it's almost 1 am. I just cranked out the last week of March on the blog, posted those, and did outlines for the posts for last week and today while it's fresh in my head. Going to head to bed now. I hear Peter coughing. This week is already over - camping tomorrow until Thursday and then Hibbert retreat. So yeah it's basically already next Sunday! Life is full and good.
