I woke up early this morning to rain, lots of rain lightening, and thunder. I loved it!!! I was pretty sure the games would be cancelled with how hard it was coming down. I went downstairs and sat in a chair by the front room window. I decided to get a book. I perused the shelves and picked up Brimley "Covenental Marriage" and read from pages 271-277 and those totally hit the spot. There must be a willingness between marital partners to talk to each other! We must be exceptional teachers and eager students. I could do better sharing how I feel, but in my defense, a lot of the time I'm trying to figure out how I feel... Anyway, that was all really good, go find my copy if you want to see the parts I underlined and annotated. Good stuff. Then I picked up Simple Abundance. I finished May and then instead of continuing through the summer chapters, I skipped to October so I could read in the proper season (cause she talks a lot about the season and time of the month and day she's on). I loved that too - A line from the Oct 1 entry about burnout! "When nothing satisfies you because you haven't a clue what's wrong or how to fix it. Because everything's wrong. Because something is terribly out of whack: you ." I caught up to Oct 4, and I liked this quote at the beginning of that entry: "There are some things you learn best in calm, and some in storm." - Willa Cather
It was a good morning and a good start to General Conference. And it worked our perfectly to have the rain cancel the soccer games. yay. We were all able to stay at home together and listen. The kids were very reverent during the morning session.
In there defense this was 90 minutes in. But it's no wonder they're struggling to stay awake when they're on the soft couch with pillows and blankets! Come on guys...I'm sure the early saints who gathered for the Kirtland Temple dedication would be disappointed by what slackers we are. We recently studied how in 1836, Sidney Rigdon gave a two-and-a-half-hour sermon and prayers as part of the dedication, and people were riveted. I wish we had that kind of gospel message endurance. Now let's talk about DANIEL!!! This kid was a star student!!
