For the past few years in the Soundhouse, Joseph has been planning and hoping to make the Crescent Super Band. He was excited this week to reach his goal when he found out he made it. Tonight was his first time playing with the band when they performed at the Governor's Gala. We have a neighbor who works with Utah Governor Herbert and he texted Corey this picture of Joseph with his band tonight - with the governor conducting. Pretty fun.
Here is a more formal picture of the band with Caleb Chapman and Governor Herbert.
So this was for the Governor's Fundraising Gala. While Joseph was jammin' there, some of our neighbors had their own band party going next door. We all went over and the kids ran around an played while we listened to music and enjoyed a neighborhood potluck. In past years, some of the kids have joined in, but those years it was a 3 or 4 person band. This year it was a big group so Corey and the boys didn't bring out their horns. Plus it was getting a bit cold, they were happy not to be playing a cold metal instrument outside. It worked out well though - We had invited our friends from Burma to come over for dinner tonight. But we invited them before we remembered that it was the potluck, so it was fun to have that for lots of food options. And was a little fun for them to see have another peek at American "culture". We had invited them over at 5:00 though, and the potluck wasn't until 6. So they played Mario Kart while we waited until dinner time.
We met Ler and his wife December a little over a year ago. They are members of the LDS church like we are, and we volunteered to help them prepare to go to the temple by teaching them the temple prep lessons. We've gone to their house to visit over the past year and they also came to Park City with us last year. December and I were expecting at the same time and her baby boy, Lerdoh, was born the day after Daniel was born, so that is fun. We've done a few things with them but haven't taken any pictures of them before. We are going to their apartment next Saturday for Lerdoh's birthday party. We'll be sure to document the event. We left the band potluck party early so that Corey could come back and give Ler some help with his resume. Ler wants to find a new job where he doesn't have to work on Sunday and can attend church more often. December was very shy and stayed in the shadows of the pot-luck. Ler has the white shirt, his brother in the yellow doing the crazy driving. Ler's brother is "fresh off the boat" and wants us to take him to an American amusement park. Corey thought it would be interesting to show them how to play Mario Kart Wii and teased them that they were pretty bad so he's never going to drive in Burma!
