Have you guys seen these Minifigure Sets? These minifigures have become my kids latest purchace of choice when they earn money - they are only $2000 pesos, which I was recently pleased to learn is not double the price that all other lego sets are. They are $4 online, so I'm feeling it's nice to not be totally ripped off. But, there's a catch... it's a random figure inside... it's in a "mystery bag" - ooh!!! So it's risky cause you don't know which one you're going to get - what if it's one you already have? Will you get the one you want the most? Oh the suspense - it kills the kids and makes me laugh.
I just noticed on their site that it says they are not available in the US? Hmm. Although they are on ebay. Maybe we can stock up and bring some back for gifts! :) So we were introduced to Lego Minifigures during our Christmas shopping at the Lego Store. They had them on display near the cash register as the last temptation, and, being one who frequently gives in to impulse buys, I bought 10. (I thought "Stocking stuffers!" plus a few extras to have on hand for kid incentives/bribes.)
For Christmas these are the figures they got:
Joe - Explorer
Mel - Explorer
Ethan - Ringmaster
Hyrum - Vampire
Wesley - Traffic Cop
Abigail - Skiier
Lily - Mime

I had a minifigure for Corey, too. He was still in bed. The kids were bringing in theirs to show and tell, then wanted him to open his. To keep the suspense going, he held is package and just looked at the list of possible choices:
The kids asked him which one he wanted and told them the ones we had so far. Corey says he'd really like the Surfer, but would be happy with any of them, but he did not want the "Baywatch girl" (Life Guard). Perhaps, being the serious student of the Lego arts that he is, he is not a fan of lego figures pretending to have figures? Well, time to open the "mystery bag"...
What does he see? The kids all start to smile as he pulls out a pair of legs with red bikini bottoms...
Joe and Ethan start ooh-ing and aah-ing - "Wow... look at that hair!!!" (Minifigure hair is a hot bartering item around here - it's the $100 bill in Lego kid currency.) Melodie is really excited someone got a girl and prepares to talk him into a trade. Hmm, Explorer for the Baywatch Girl.
Corey didn't drive a hard bargain and gave it to her - Mel was very pleased.
Wednesday is my errand day and when I go shopping there is another Lego Store on the way to Lider - even closer than the one at the Alto Las Condes Mall. Ethan and I walked there one day when the car battery was dead (took a half hour). They had the series 1 set there a few times and we've started to "collect them all" of those too.
We got really lucky and got two that the kids really wanted - the Cowboy & Tribal Hunter. They were pleased with the Clown too. That series is a risky one though, cause my kids are nervous when they open the figure worried that they'll find out they've wasted their money on the Demolition Dummy.
These are double packaged too - there's the bag that you can feel through, which Ethan is doing here, trying to divine what figure it is...
But to get to that, you have to cut it out of the packaging of hard plastic covering with cardboard back. Joe saved $6000 pesos, enough money to buy 3 figures.
He opened one in the car on the way home. He got it out of the plastic and cardboard. He ripped the mystery bag but was too scared to look in. He held it out to Ethan "Just look in! Don't tell me what it is, just tell me if it's one we already have..." Ethan says "OOOHH!!!!" - sounds like good news - he looks in and starts to scream "SURFER DUDE!!! Look at that hair!!!"
His other two were the Witch and the Traffic Cop. No hair on those two, just hats.
I didn't take the kids to the Lego store yesterday, but they've been earning money by translating Spanish books into English - Corey's paying them for each page, so they're going to go today... and the suspense continues.
The scuba guy and surfer dude would be ENORMOUS in our house! Baywatch girl wouldn't be that cool.... we're still thinking girls aren't cool... are at least some of us are pretending.....
ReplyDeleteTiffanie, I found your site through the BodyRock site. I'm so impressed with you and by you! We also have a larger than average family and we travel worldwide (or move) quite frequently. Check out my newest blog page at www.cutterdaily.blogspot.com
Best of luck with this pregnancy!
Jillian
I am glad they aren't in the US because they'd be what all our kids' money went to also! But they are pretty awesome.
